NETDEPLOY GLOBAL is an integrated suite of software and services providing full lifecycle software management for large organizations. NETDEPLOY GLOBAL provides efficiencies at every stage of the software lifecycle, from software acquisition, through testing, license management, distribution, self-healing installation, automatic updates, and eventual decommissioning. Essentially, there are three components to NETDEPLOY GLOBAL software – the NETDEPLOY GLOBAL Administrator, NETDEPLOY GLOBAL Client and SmartPullâDistributor

Components

The NETDEPLOY GLOBAL Administrator establishes a software Workshop and Warehouse for centralised control of software throughout the organisation. Using comprehensive Warehouse management features, NETDEPLOY GLOBAL gives users the power to manage the full lifecycle of software for every desktop and notebook PC in their organisation, and even for business partners where required.

The NETDEPLOY GLOBAL Client component resides on each client notebook and desktop PC. The Client utilises patented SmartPull technology to download and install software from the nearest available deployment servers, according to detailed schedules and deployment policies defined in the software Warehouse. Comprehensive tracking and compliance features in the NETDEPLOY GLOBAL Client provide management data back to the Administrator to validate the success of the software deployment and to support software license management.

From the Warehouse, the user need only click to distribute the software, policies and schedules. For organisations of under 3000 clients, this distribution can go directly to deployment servers — with no special software or hardware requirements. For larger organisations, the NETDEPLOY GLOBAL SmartPull Distributor is an optional server component that facilitates server-to-server distribution in large installations. This SmartPull server-to-server distribution enables server fan-out for rapid large-scale distribution and server fan-in for tracking and data collection—providing unlimited scalability.

Components of NETDEPLOY GLOBAL required for organisations with under 3000 clients

NETDEPLOY GLOBAL Services draw on the global resources of Open Software Associates (OSA) and includes:

• A five step model for software management that we call P-R-I-D-E.

• NETDEPLOY GLOBAL training 

• Planning and design services that assist organisations in planning for any software deployment project.

• Windows 2000 migration services that allow organisations to stage their migration to Windows 2000 in a time frame that suits them.

• Implementation services with OSA consultants that can either work with the customer’s existing implementation team or undertake the whole implementation themselves.

• Remote administration which allows organisations to outsource the administration of their software management to OSA.

• Hosting services for organisations that need to outsource all their software management.

 Innovation

The key to the uniqueness of NETDEPLOY GLOBAL is held in the client component that exists on all client PCs in an organisation.

Rather than having all the intelligence residing on the server, which then pushes applications out across a network, the NETDEPLOY GLOBAL Client downloads and updates application packages that have been prepared by the central NETDEPLOY GLOBAL Administrator. The Client works with or without interaction from the user on the client computer. The Client can deliver applications and updates:

• when a client computer is turned on 
• when a user logs on
• when a user opens an application,
• or at times determined by the Administrator.

NETDEPLOY GLOBAL meets real world business needs allowing organisations to manage their whole software environment. As well as managing applications individually, NETDEPLOY GLOBAL lets organisations manage whole software sets at a time, based on the software requirements of user groups. NETDEPLOY GLOBAL allows organisations to scale the resulting Standard Operating Environment (SOE) from the individual user to the enterprise and beyond. NETDEPLOY GLOBAL extends software management across the globe, across major computing platforms and across all common networks to reach every notebook and desktop computer throughout the extended enterprise.

The proliferation and sophistication of mobile devices such as mobile phones and PDAs (eg: PalmPilots) in the corporate world opens a whole new market to which the NETDEPLOY GLOBAL technology can be applied. Currently NETDEPLOY GLOBAL is only being used to manage software on desktop and notebook computers. While the hardware used in mobile devices may differ from that used in desktop and notebook computers, the need to manage the software contained on these devices remains the same.
