Product Description
There is no doubt that mobile devices are the next major computing platform, the current technology inhibitors are device capabilities, communication speeds and applications. The first two problems are well underway in being addressed with more powerful handheld devices and launching of high speed wireless networks such as 3G and wiMax. What remains to be solved is interconnecting applications that will allow internal and external users to communicate seamlessly with existing legacy and modern systems.
J3 believes we have solved this by providing an interconnecting framework of applications and modules that allows us to provide an industrial strength mobility solution that is easily extended.
MobilePoint is a collection of programs and modules that can form a key part of any successful mobile implementation. Since each company has different mobile needs based on their market vertical, size and existing technology base then why not choose the parts that are valid for your business from a library of known interchangeable parts.
Some examples of application developed using the framework:
PocketBank: a banking solution for the mobile phone
Pallet Tracking System: A system developed for TNT Logistics using open standard RosettaNet messages
Home Valuation System: Handheld system developed for a home valuation company using the open LIXI standard (Case Studied by HP and mentioned in BRW)
Piazza: Multiplatform (Nokia and Microsoft) conference agenda system for mobile devices. (Winner of Macromedia Mobility Competition and featured in Hong Kong press )

Innovation
MobilePoint’s innovation comes from several key parts to the solution:
1. Out of the box handling of several open interchange standards
One of the big problems that face large organisations when implementing b2b trading systems is how to handle smaller less technology aware partners. This is usually done by either leaving a manual process in place or extra cost to the business by implementing a web site. The negative effect of the later solution is that company then has to re-key their own system data and then usually into three of four other systems if they other trading systems which provides a poor user experience.
MobilePoint implements common functionality on a mobile device that is used by major interchange standards such as RosettaNet, ebXML for warehouse and ordering functionality and LIXI for home origination and home valuations. This can be extended to other XML interchange standards.
2. Simplified management and security for mobile devices.
Once a company adopts a mobility solution, next comes the problem of making sure the system is configured correctly to work within the boundaries of the corporate usage policy which obviously includes control over things such as internet, phone and application installation.
In the past it required a person who knew the devices extremely well, with MobilePoint configuration module it’s a simple matter of selecting the settings you want and then send them straight to the device.
Once mobile devices are in the field its extremely hard to make sure they are up to date and tracking the usage of the device, again with MobilePoint it’s a simple matter of turning on logging and configuration of reporting.
Other innovations include:
Direct document management from the devices
Message delivery

Performance
MobilePoint module suite is targeted at the business community and hence is provided as a robust and scalable solution. Of course we rely on it for our contract workers in the field to prepare timesheets.
It is currently being used in the field in various capacities and handles in one scenario 1000’s of articles a day for an international logistics company. Its use will be case studied at the end of February at Wireless 2006 event in Sydney.
Because of the known interchangeable parts, a new company could be up and running with a fully managed Mobile IT infrastructure within hours instead of the current lengthy scenario of days.

Potential
The potential of MobilePoint is very large, a lot of business applications have the potential of requiring to be extended to a mobile device.
The Aberdeen Group recently surveyed field service companies and expressed that 44% of these companies will implement a wide area connected solution in the next 18 months.

At the recent 3GSM conference in Barcelona, Steve Ballmer keynote speech discussed Windows Mobile as a critical part of Microsoft future and also made reference to that the wall between consumers and businesses is an artificial one. The barrier can be removed by allowing mobile applications direct access via open standards.
j3 Technology developed a plugin for displaying data via Macromedia flash applications, this application one a recent Nokia/Macromedia competation for application development.
j3 Technology is a recognised Nokia Pro developer and recently become the first company in Australia to reach Microsoft Mobile Partner competency. The later was reached by demonstrating our proven track record in delivering robust mobile solution to companies such as TNT Logistics, Patricks, Grace Information and RPG to name a few.
