Product Description
During implementation of the Concerto Portal there is a focus on providing efficient clinical workflow. The integrated view provided by the Concerto Portal ensures that clinicians have all relevant data on hand at the time of diagnosis and treatment, improving patient safety and saving time by eliminating redundant tests and administrative procedures.
The single sign on functionality eliminates the need for clinicians to remember multiple passwords required for the separate systems, whilst maintaining the highest levels of security and controlled access to clinical information.
Using familiar web-technology, the Concerto Portal ensures that the application is easy to learn and use. The portal can be accessed for any internet connected PC, laptop or device equipped with a web browser, ensuing that clinicians can work efficiently from anywhere that they are.
Orion Health’s Concerto Portal uses industry-standard communications protocols and interfaces, so it is able to interoperate with current healthcare systems. It is built on an open and easily customisable Java platform, so it can be extended and enhanced through Orion Health’s Concerto Clinical Applications, other industry-standard workflow applications and regional and national networks.
Major features of the Concerto Portal include:
Dynamic Patient Summary
The Dynamic Patient Summary (DPS) is a real-time summary generated from the latest available information gathered from underlying clinical information systems across the enterprise (e.g. demographics, GP details, medications, encounter history, upcoming appointments). The content and layout of the DPS can be configured to reflect the workflow requirements of the enterprise, and can be customised by individual users to support their work preferences. Access to clinical documentation is provided via the Clinical Document Viewer. These documents can include results, reports, letters and images associated with a patient. These can be sorted by date, service, document type and author.

Clinician Homepages
Clinician homepages are typically loaded when a user logs in. They are configurable by individual users to support their clinical workflow. They can display items such as mail inboxes, calendars, work-lists (e.g. appointments for the day), task lists, clinic lists, ward lists.

Patient Searches and Lists
Using the Generic Search function of Concerto, searches can be constructed against a range of data sources and can be custom written to meet requirements of clinicians e.g. ward search, clinic search, theatre list, ED patient list, unsigned results list.

Innovation
The Concerto Medical Applications Portal (Concerto Portal) can be described as:
Creating a business advantage
Breaking new ground
Empowerment of users
Creating a Business Advantage
The Concerto Portal’s ability to provide a single, clinically relevant up-to-date source of patient information creates a significant business, and clinical advantage to healthcare organisations. Specifically:
Reduced workload and costs: With the Concerto Portal, clinicians have the right information, at the right place, at the right time. It eliminates the need to search through multiple systems, using numerous passwords. There is reduction in the overheads and resource required to manage paper records and access to up to date information is available from any web enabled device.
Increased ROI: The Concerto Portal brings islands of information together. By leveraging existing organisational investments in infrastructure, clinical applications and personnel, the Concerto Portal delivers more value for the organisations money . The web-based nature of the application means that deployment is fast and simple, eliminating the need for IT staff to install software throughout the organisation.
Better patient care: The complete view of information means viewing up-to-date lab results, orders and medications can be done fast and efficiently. It eliminates unnecessary tests and procedures, and streamlines patient care from admission through to follow up.
Breaking New Ground
The Concerto Portal is helping to break new ground in the healthcare industry, by providing the foundation for Electronic Health Records (EHRs).
EHRs will become increasingly fundamental in the challenging healthcare environment, where care providers are required to improve standards of patient care in the most cost efficient manner.
EHRs provide an accurate, permanent and centrally accessible electronic file containing key aspects of an individual’s medical history. This single source of patient information improves consultation, diagnostic and treatment times by removing the need to log on to and search different specialist clinical systems, or to contact other healthcare providers for information.
The technology used in the Concerto Portal provides the backbone for delivering this solution, which is helping to break new ground around the world.
Empowerment of Users
The right information, at the right time, at the right place empowers clinical users to make informed decisions on their patients care.
The Concerto Portal provides clinicians with the ability to configure the system to meet their own needs and support efficient clinical workflow in their area. Access to patient searches, lists and clinical documentation reduces clinician reliance on clerical and administrative staff.

Real User Benefits
Below are just some of the benefits our customers have expressed:
"For a new technology, the adoption rate among our physicians has been unusually high. We have even had requests from non-physician groups to start using the technology as well! The addition of Concerto to our IT infrastructure has not impacted our technical staff in the least. The few minor support questions we had have been handled politely and efficiently by Orion's support team."
Kevin DeWitz, senior Webmaster at Central Washington Hospital
“The innovation comes from the fact that this new healthcare information technology system we’ll put into place will use the capabilities of the current technology already there. We’ll be overlaying the current equipment with this new technology, so everyone can talk to each other seamlessly, using systems they’re already familiar with, so it will be easy to use.”
Thomas R. Sims, Mt. Ascutney Hospital’s IT Director & Principal Project Investigator
“The challenge is to effectively share patient information with caregivers across our facilities and in the community, providing secure access when and where required. With the help of Orion technology, we are able to offer our 2,000 physicians and over 6,500 other authorized health care staff access to an unparalleled range of patient lab results, medication information, clinical notes and demographic information.”
Donna Strating, CIO of Capital Health
