In his most recent role, as Principal Engineer at ResMed (http://resmed.com/), John has been responsible for the identification, assessment and adaptation of appropriate software technologies to ensure ResMed’s products continue to lead the market. John gained a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) from UTS, back in the days when it was known as UNSWIT, and a PhD from UNSW where he gained a passion for using technology to improve the quality of life of the ill. |

John Oates
BE, PhD
John has been in the computer industry for over 20 years, specialising in embedded software systems. He has a broad range of experience in bringing products to market ranging from the challenges of developing novel products in a start up to being part of a team of hundreds working on telephone systems at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies. His expertise is in OO design, signal processing, control, algorithms, real time systems, and medical software processes. He has been involved in all the facets of the software development process undertaking many roles including software engineering manager, systems engineer, software engineer and software architect.
