Mike Walker

Mike has extensive experience as a manager and a consultant in both the public and private sectors. After graduating with Arts and Science degrees, he began his career as a consultant in Operations Research. He completed a MBA degree in 1972.

In 1976 he joined Berger Paints where he had internal consultant and management roles including General Manager NSW, responsible for a branch of 90 people.

Mike was recruited to a national marketing role in Westpac Banking Corporation at the time of formation of this new bank from a merger of Bank of NSW and CBA.

In 1984, he decided to commence his own consultancy practice, specialising in strategic and marketing planning assignments. His clients covered a wide range of industry and activity categories in the public and private sectors in Australia, including Westpac, Tubemakers, Australian Government Publishing Services and Chase Manhattan Bank,

Mike joined Marketshare, a Brisbane-based marketing consultancy, in 1995 in the role of General Manager NSW to open a Sydney office and develop the firm's business in NSW. Clients of the business extended across many industry sectors including consumer products, professional services firms, higher education, distribution and government.

In 2000, he formed Australian Strategy Group to provide an experienced consulting service in market research, strategic planning and organisational development. Clients include organisations in manufacturing, higher education, professional services and agri-business sectors. Major projects have included marketing strategy development and business planning for new market entry and commercialisation of new technology.
